Vinings Health Park
Outpatient medical services are a growing demand in the healthcare industry, so we collaborated with WellStar to redefine and evolve the outpatient building model. Our design team helped shape what would become the health park concept, starting with the opening of the Acworth Health Park in 2013, to the East Cobb Health Park in 2015, and then to the Vinings Health Park in 2017. WellStar health parks break the mold of traditional medical office building design; they aim to bring outpatient services with hospital-level quality care into our communities.
Our team designed an innovative and inviting space for outpatient care. Vinings Health Park provides opportunities for community outreach as well as unique amenities for patients who have come to receive care from primary physicians, specialists and hospital services all under one roof. We used this design opportunity to literally break down barriers by opening up the space and creating shared waiting and reception areas in the lobby atrium. We also used Lean space planning to serve WellStar’s integrated program with maximum efficiency.
Vinings’s aesthetic was inspired by elements of nature, which make the facility approachable and calming. The lobby entrance has an expanse of window walls to allow natural light to fill the space and a two-story water feature to engage visitors at the front desk. Lined with organically shaped planters with built-in benches, the path from the front door to the elevators mimics the experience of walking through a park.
In our experience, WellStar health parks become an integral part of their community. At Vinings, we wanted visitors to feel a unique sense of comfort and familiarity. We curated photography of local landmarks, architecture and parks to line the corridors, which further connects the space to the patients and demonstrates WellStar’s commitment to the community.
